XTrain: Tabatacise

A few weeks ago I received my Cathe Friedrich XTrain: Tabatacise DVD in the mail. I was excited to give it a try. As a stay-at-home mom, I am always looking for a great workout that doesn't require hours of my attention.

My husband used to take a Tabata class at the PAC and he would rave about it. The rec center doesn't offer a Tabata class so I was left out of all the fun.

Now was my chance to see what it was all about. The only piece of equipment that was required was a step...which I already had.
Before I give my review, let me explain a little about tabata. A tabata is a form of HIIT (high intensity interval training) in which you go all out in a short amount of time. In Tabatacise, Cathe has you go all out for 20 seconds and then recover for 10 seconds. You do this for a total of 4 minutes.
I started with level 1, no need to push myself too hard, lol. I was a bit nervous but ready to sweat my butt off and burn some calories.
Level 1 was no joke. Even though it was less than 20 minutes I got a serious full-body workout and I was beat. My quads and butt were burning by the end. I was sore for a few days post-workout. I love being sore, it means that I got a great workout. I couldn't wait to try the other levels!!

The other levels use level 1 as a base and you build up from there. In each segment you start with a 7 minute warm-up, do the tabata, then a cardio blaster and finish with a cool-down/stretch. Knowing that the tabatas are only 4 minutes long make the workout seem very manageable. I didn't feel overwhelmed or bored because Cathe was constantly switching it up.

I really like this DVD because Cathe does ALL of the workouts with you. I've done other workouts where the instructor only does some of the workouts but not Cathe!! You can see that she is working hard and tired by the end. She's sweating and giving it her all, it's so motivating!
