Taper, taper, taper....oh how I love thee.
This morning started with my children waking me up at 5! Actually this is what woke me up:
Bella: Miguel do you need help going potty?
Miguel: Yes.
At that point, I jumped out of bed and took over. Needless to say, my day started earlier than usual.
I met my Team at The Boathouse at Fletcher's Cove. I was pretty excited to run this route again. I really enjoyed it last time. The scenery is great and it's just so peaceful. Plus today I would get to run with Kerry again.
I was ready to rock my 10 6 mile run even though the weather was craptastic (again). It was cold (which I can handle) but the wind was blowing. I am so ready for some warmer weather.
The plan today was to run 10 miles; however, our Coaches decided on 6 miles instead. Works for me!!
We ran at a slower pace and I was fine with that since we're tapering. I'm trying my hardest to follow the program and not push myself. I'm suppose to trust the taper and that's what I am doing.
5.90 miles in 56:44
Mile 1 - 9:45
Mile 2 - 10:12
Mile 3 - 10:24
Mile 4 - 8:58
Mile 5 - 9:04
Average pace - 9:37 min/mile
Besides being cold, I felt really good. This is the first winter that I have really trained through. I have braved most of the elements - snow, rain, bitter cold, flurries, wind, 40+mph gusts...you get the picture.
I am hoping that running through all of this crappy weather will make me a stronger runner. I am hoping to rock the Rock 'n' Roll USA half!!
I cannot wait!!!
How was your Saturday? Did you get a chance to run or race?

I recently recommitted to the Nike Women's half marathon. I am almost at my goal but I still need YOUR help! Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to MY FUNDRAISING PAGE. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

I love taper time and how fresh the legs feel at the end of it. Good luck at Rock 'n' Roll.
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I love how fresh my legs feel too
DeleteGood luck!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI did not run or race but I did have a great workout at the gym!
I watched your video. Great job!!
DeleteI ran 16 today. Slowly getting into training for my 2nd marathon. I love the taper after so many long running weeks, but it also terrifies me. Should I really take that long off?
ReplyDelete16 miles is the farthest I ran before my injury. It was tough!! Which marathon are you training for?
DeleteI am doing RnR Nashville. 16 miles was the furthest I got in August before I got injured and had to end up dropping out of Marine Corp in October. Hitting that mark again post injury felt good.
DeleteThat is exactly what happened to me. Did you defer your MCM entry to this year?
