Weightlifting update....

I've been doing my husband's weightlifting series for about a month now. This is what I have learned:

Chest & back exercises are my least favorite
Arms & shoulder exercises are going well.
Leg exercises are by far my FAVORITE!!!

I've been doing most of my weightlifting workouts alone. It's easier for me and plus I like to workout in the morning and not wait until the kids go to bed. Plus the kids enjoy playing in the basement while I lift. Win-Win!

These are the exercises I have been doing. I feel pretty comfortable with these weights. When it's time to move up in weight, I'll workout with the hubs so he can spot me. No one has time for injuries!!

I noticed that when I first started lifting, my husband was so nice and patient with me. He showed me the exercises and we worked at my pace and with weight I was comfortable lifting.

Now....not so much. When we lift together, he's all Drill Sergeant and doesn't let me whine. I'll admit, I'm a total witch when we do chest and back exercises. I don't like them. Maybe when I get stronger, I will start to enjoy it but for now...NO!

On leg day, I look forward to the exercises. Dare I say that I enjoy them. I get a good workout but I'm not overly sore. I know this has bugged my husband and last night he decided to change up my leg routine.
This is my regular leg routine....

Last night, we eliminated box squats, glute bridges and wide stance high rep squats. We replaced them with a lunge series and I HATED every minute of it.

I'm pretty sure I was being this "lady"..lol especially around 2:25, except I wasn't foam rolling, I was doing lunges while holding a 35lb weight.

Here are my stats for last night's leg workout:
3 x10
Squats - 70lbs, 70lbs, 75lbs, 85lbs, 95lbs (1 rep) and 105lbs (1 rep)
Deadlifts -85lbs, 85lbs, 95lbs (6 reps), 105lbs (1 rep) and 115lbs (1 rep)
Front Squats - 45lbs x 3
Romanian Deadlifts - 85lbs, 85lbs, 95lbs
Calf raises (3x20) - 95lbs x 3
Step-ups - 35lbs x 3
Lunges - 35lbs x 3
Side lunges - 35lbs x 3

Here are some things I might have said to my husband:

"Shut up"
"I hate you"
"It's not funny"
"I'm tired. Are we almost done?"
"Step ups are stupid"
"Are you doing this to me because I haven't been sore after doing your workouts?"

You get the picture. Luckily, he's a good sport and didn't get mad at me.

I know you all are wondering how I am feeling today.. I'm sore but I loved every minute of it. My glutes are the most sore but they were already sore from doing level 3 of Tabatacise earlier. Yoga should be fun tonight...

Do you enjoy being sore after a workout?

  9. I love the sore feeling after a workout! Especially after I figured out the difference between being sore vs. being in pain. Leg day is my fav too :)
