It's Saturday and that means it is time for my LONG RUN!! I actually look forward to long runs. Most of them are peaceful and so fulfilling.
I got out of my warm bed at 5:30. My bed was so warm, I did not want to get out. However, I knew it was cold out and I didn't want to run 8 miles alone. I snuck downstairs to make my coffee and oatmeal. I ate in complete silence and checked my email.
I dressed myself in layers, wearing my new power core base layer. I also purchased new fleece lined running pants. The nice thing about being 5'2" is that I am able to shop in the kids section. An XL fits me perfectly, lol.
It was a little cold when I left. Oh and yes, I was listening to Color Me Badd "All 4 Love" SiriusXM 90s on 9. Love me some 90s music.
The drive was uneventful and I arrived at The Boathouse at Fletcher's Cove with about 15 minutes to spare.
So peaceful
I stayed in my car for as long as possible. Perry, one of my awesome coaches, had us do a warm up and some stretching before our run. This is just what I needed and my body was ready to run. Perry talked about working on negative splits today. I figured I would give it a try.
The trail was awesome. It had a few hills but nothing crazy. I ran alone but wore my headphones. I needed the music. I started off slow(er) than normal because I really wanted to conserve my energy and build my endurance. I have a tendency to start off too fast and then I am exhausted by the time I finish.
Another brilliant run!!
8 miles in 1:12:15
Mile 1 - 9:57
Mile 2 - 9:10
Mile 3 - 9:07
Mile 4 - 9:05
Mile 5 - 8:59
Mile 6 -8:47
Mile 7 - 8:40
Mile 8 - 8:23
Average pace - 9:01 min/mile
I am ridiculously proud of my negative splits. Not only did I do it but I wasn't tired at all when I finished. Although I ran alone, I didn't feel like I was alone because of my Team in Training teammates!! I am so honored to be a part of such an amazing group of people.
My new base layer shirt worked great. I was pretty warm the entire time but not overheated. I wore a t-shirt over it and one of my running jackets. I think it was the perfect combination for today's cold temps.
I'm currently at 61% of my goal!! So thankful to everyone who has donated. Please consider making tax-deductible donation to my My Fundraising Page and help save lives!!

Great job on the negative splits! Wish I could run that fast :)

DeleteYou should be proud of your splits- awesome job! I skipped my long run this weekend because of a little post marathon shin tenderness... itching to get back out there!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura. I know all about that itchiness. I spent 12 long weeks not being able to run. It stinks.
