Rematch

Well hello there Marine Corps Marathon, I see we meet again.

If you've been following my blog for some time, you will recall that last year I was supposed to run the MCM. About 8 weeks into training THIS happened and I was forced to defer my 2012 entry to 2013.

Today at noon, I was able to re-register and guarantee my spot for the race.
Although training won't begin until June/July, I am already starting to plan. I want to train smart to ensure that I don't injury myself again.

Now I am pretty sure I found the perfect shoes (Mizuno Wave Inspire 9s) so now I just need to find the perfect training plan. Hopefully my body will be able to handle the high(er) mileage each week. I'll also be training solo.

As of right now, I don't have a time-specific goal in mind. I just want to finish.

I am so stinking excited but also very nervous.

Any advice or words of wisdom?!

  1. Yay! It's such a great race...my favorite! Fingers crossed everything goes perfectly and you're standing at that the starting line healthy and ready run!
There's more downhill on that course than I realize. I'd train for that. :)

  4. I think new shoes are always a good way to start a training plan. That's where I always get in trouble - wearing my shoes past their prime.

    Good luck!!

  5. I ran Marine Corps just last October (we got to run to beat Hurricane Sandy:), your going to love it! It's the only race you get a body pat down from a cute Marine before entering into the runners village for the start:) LOL - My advice, although you'll probably figure this out by then. Plan to take the Metro that morning to the Pentagon to take the walk to the start, get there EARLY, really early, try to beat the rush of the thousands!

    1. We're local so I am sure we will get there super early. Or maybe I will just stay in a hotel the night before.

  7. Yay! As someone who's had multiple sfx and a run coach my advice is listen to your body, don't be afraid to skip a run if something hurts. Keep low but adequate mileage and increase slowly, replace shoes often or rotate two pairs. Good luck with training :)

    1. Rotating shoes is a good idea. I have the perfect shoe, now I just need to get an extra pair.

  9. Take it easy and perhaps start training sooner rather than later so you can build up the mileage slowly. Also, love Natalies comment about rotating shoes. I used 3 pairs - two on my shorter runs then had a shoe with more stability for my longer runs.
Can't wait to follow your training!
