Let's get it done!
Let's start with today's recovery run...30 minutes at an easy pace.
It was cold but what else is new. It was windy but the sun was shining.
Well hello there, Mr. Sun.
I got to wear and test out my new hat and gloves. My cheapie gloves weren't cutting it anymore so the hubs bought me some new ones.
I also bought some Injinji socks because I noticed that got a hot spot/blister on the ball of my foot.
I guess yesterday's run was a bit rough on me. They worked great. I didn't have any issues whatsoever. I think I will continue to wear these socks during my long runs for the rest of winter.
3.5 miles in 30:21
Mile 1 - 8:47
Mile 2 - 8:34
Mile 3 - 8:32
Average pace 8:40 min/mile
This run started and ended with hills. I can't avoid them, they are everywhere. I charged up the last hill. I was determined to get negative splits on this run....and I did. Woot! I enjoyed a little protein shake post-run and then started my day.
So Friday night, Roy and I had a serious talk. I decided to give his weightlifting workout a try. He's been bugging me to try it but I always decline. I told him I didn't want to end up looking like Starla:
Name that movie....
Not that there's anything wrong with women bodybuilders, I just don't want to be that buff. Today was biceps, triceps and shoulders....oh how fun.
Game Face
To be honest, it wasn't that bad. I got a good workout and lifted some good weight. I was proud of myself when I was able to lift 75lbs for shrugs. I also knocked out my #plankaday afterwards. It was hard since my upper body was spent. Maybe next time I will do the plank first...yeah that makes much more sense.
I was super badass today and used chalk on my hands to lift the weights. I don't want big, huge calluses on my hands so hopefully the chalk will help. Tomorrow is leg day, so I'm sure I will be hating my husband by Tuesday, haha.
Ooooooh and before I forget. Let me share my bargain I found today at Target:
It is a black power core long-sleeved shirt...perfect for those cold morning runs. It was on clearance for $5.98!!! SCORE! I cannot wait to try this out. I'm hoping it's the perfect base layer.
Now for a little fundraising news. A gigantic THANK YOU to my in-laws for their generous donation. I am so very thankful for everyone who has donated to my Team in Training fundraiser. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, please click HERE

**whispers**Id love to be that buff :-) and thats what makes us all unique huh?
ReplyDeletehave a great week!
I would *love* to be as buff as you :) To me, you're the perfect balance.
DeleteYou've done awesome girl, keep up the great work! You're motivating me to push faster!
ReplyDeleteWoot! I'm glad I am able to help :)
DeleteGreat job! I started weight lifting more seriously a year ago and my running has improved so much :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what I want to hear. My husband has been telling me that but of course I didnt' believe him, lol.
DeleteI need to check out the Target clearance racks ASAP! I am in need of a base layer, but hate shelling out big bucks for big names. I have a few things from the Target line and I have zero complaints!
ReplyDeleteDon't be scared to lift weights! You'd have to do some extreme lifting to look like Starla, but weight will get you toned all over!
I was really surprised that I found that shirt on clearance. It was the last one, too. I usually buy the Old Navy Active apparel because it's cheaper and lasts.
DeleteI love injinji socks!!!
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised at how well they worked. I am going to get a few more pairs.
DeleteI agree with Jen (marathonmom)- weights can improve your running, and help prevent injury! I try to incorporate some 2-3 times a week... nothing too intense, but I do feel stronger. I'll always be a cardio girl at heart. :)
ReplyDeleteI do love my cardio but I think I will give my husband's routine a chance. It was actually kind of fun to workout with someone for once.
DeleteGotta love Target! I hear that JC Penny now carries athletic wear that's not bad! I am willing to pay full price for some items, but for layering and tops, paying $50 for a running top is not really where I want to put my money so I love to save money where I can!
ReplyDeleteI love finding a good deal. As an one-income family, I try to save as much as possible.
DeleteI have the same exact blender bottle. And is that a screen shot from Napoleon Dynamite?! :)
ReplyDeleteYep. It's from Napoleon Dynamite, haha
DeleteIt would take A LOT to be as buff as Starla :-) Don't be scared of the heavy weights. Sometimes you have to lift heavier than you think. It will make you a stronger runner too and help with injury prevention. You're doing great!
ReplyDeleteTrust me, getting that buff doesn't come as easy as people think it does. Don't be afraid of lifting heavy...that's all I do (with the exception of my light weeks).
ReplyDeleteYay for Injinji's! Great job spanking those hills. I love me some weight lifting. Trying to do more of it. Don't need to be that buff though!
